It is believed that there are different types of dreams. If you ask several dream experts that exactly how many different types of dreams out there or categories there are, you'll probably get several different answers, and they would all be correct. Therefore, types of dreams can be classified into the following:
Daydreams - Daydreams are often viewed as light-hearted in nature and are no more than silly fantasies or wishful thinking. Daydream occurs when you are semi-awake and it is the spontaneous imagining or recalling of various images or experiences in the past. Daydream may take the form of a train of thought, leading the daydreamer away from being aware of his or her immediate surroundings, and concentrating more and more on these new directions of thought. Daydream was long held in disrepute in society and was associated with laziness. Daydream is generally not harmful, unless the daydreaming episodes interfere with activities of daily living. Daydream first occurs for most people during childhood, sometime before age three, and these early daydreams set the pattern for adult daydreaming. Daydream is often neglected in the study of dreams.
Lucid - Lucid dreams occurs when you realize you are dreaming in the middle of your dream. Lucid dream gives us the ability to control our dreams and steer them towards the direction we want. Lucid dream also means being aware you are in dreams while in dreams, therefore allowing you to explore the dream world actively. Lucid dreaming is a scientifically accepted phenomenon which has been proven to exist countless times in sleep laboratories, and whose potentials are only beginning to be explored.
Nightmares - Nightmares dream serves an important purpose in showing you what is troubling you within you deeper levels. Nightmares may also occur because we have ignored or refused to accept a particular life situation. Nightmare dreams are the result of suppressing fear or they can contain a forewarning about something that is to come. They are very common in young children that are why they wake up scared, screaming, or crying, and need to be comforted.
Recurring - Recurring dreams are another category you'll see in other sources. People have found these to be in the message dreams category. Recurring dreams are quite common and are often triggered by a certain life situation or a problem that keeps coming back again and again. This type of dream can be about any subject, and they focus on that subject night after night.
Symbols - Symbols dreams are very powerful and important in truly interpreting a dream you have had. It leads you to a deeper and greater understanding of the mysteries of the universe, enriching your life with another dimension of discovery. The meanings to your nightly dream symbols are also applicable to your daydreams.
Prophetic – Prophetic dreams are dreams or visions that tell the future.
False Awakening Dreams - The false awakening dreams ever thought you were awake and going about your morning routine of getting up, brushing your teeth, eating breakfast and going to work only to wake up again and realize that was just a dream.
Healing Dreams - Healing dreams are messages with warnings that the dreamer should check their health. In another word, the healing dreams are often seen as sending a message to the dreamer regarding his or her health.
Signal Dreams - Signal dreams help you how to solve problems or make decisions in your waking life.
Repetitive Dreams - Repetitive dreams repeated or recurring dreams are fairly common, and it can safely be said that they are important to whoever dreams them, carrying a message which will be very well worth recovering.
People all dream, I think. It is part of our life and on average we spend one third of our life dreaming. And dream for as long as we live, even babies that are not born dream. There are different types of dreams, of course. Understanding the different types of dreams could help us to understand why we are dream what we are dreaming. Since researchers really do not know what actually happens to the mind during dreams, there is no reason to believe that these types of dreams are unreal. Often these types of dreams can be overcome by providing treatment to the cause of the trauma and medical professionals and counselors can assist in this area. The dream world, the importance of taking dreams seriously, the different types of dreams, dream symbols and dream work.
